2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Poor Feedback

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a more defined direction.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to address gamer demands.

Trend of Key Recruitment

The news echoes a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire text from the president's announcement:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our audience.

The trust in this project increases every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, he officially joins us on the specified date.

Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to come.

The President

Experience of the New Head

The appointee currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. Then, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that change every session. Do you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, risk it all, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."

The game does not have an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can look forward to additional details as production advances.
